Emerald Lake Engagement Session

I headed up to Emerald Lake a few weeks ago for Carolyn and Mike’s Emerald Lake Engagement Session. We had so much fun exploring the area together and discussing their wedding this September. These two are so sweet together and you can really see how much they love one another. This has to be one of my favorite engagement sessions i’ve done! I wanted to share a bit of their love story with their engagement photos. Read below to find how this sweet couple met, their first date and how he proposed. You won’t want to miss it!

How did you meet?

We originally met online after some previous interesting experiences, a couple of my closest friends said to give online dating another try. If it didn’t work this time, then I would just take a break from it.  Luckily, this would be the time that I would meet such a caring, smart and handsome young man, who I would later fall madly in love with.  It turned out that after some texting back and forth with Mike. I found out that a friend of mine actually knew him and grew up with him (they actually lived next door to each other) and she was thrilled to know that he was the guy who I would be going on a date with.

She told me that she believed that we would get along great and I should give it a go and see.  She couldn’t have been more right and I couldn’t wait to tell her how great the date went.  He also invited me to come to a surprise party for our friend Annette on the following Sunday.  I really wanted to go, so that I could see him again but I didn’t as to not seem too eager.

Describe your first date:

Mike got in touch with me to suggest a haunted house because he knew of my love for horror films.  Let’s just say that I love horror films because they aren’t happening to me and I was not overly thrilled about the idea of people jumping out at me.  I fought back my fear though, as I wanted to see him and consulting with friends, they said I would be just fine.  He picked me up from my house that night and I tried to act all cool about the soon to be horror we were about to experience.  I found out quickly that Mike hated clowns and that we would soon almost be forced into the face of one! Lol

I believe that Mike planned this date as a way to be close to me, as not even 30 seconds into the haunted house, my hands were gripped onto his arm while I was pushing him and telling him to hurry up.  we had Freddy Krueger like people behind us and clowns and dolls in front. lol Finally, we made it through and walked around the parking lot deep breathing for the next couple minutes.  I then convinced him to go watch a movie, as we had spare time from almost running through the haunted house.  I chose Stephen King’s IT and he right away said yes! even though its a movie whose main character is a clown.  I believe that we actually became closer that night, due to having the feeling of our lives flashing before our eyes lol!

Who proposed and was it a surprise?

Mike was the one who proposed.  We had been talking about getting married for a little while and actually had started the process of designing a ring together.  Once the ring had finally been decided on and the digital rendering had been made, then all the communication was between the jeweler and Mike.  We had been planning on going to the Flying Canoe festival in February and when the day arrived, I was on the fence as it was FREEZING cold!  Minus 35 to be exact!

Luckily I had just bought some new base layers, so Mike convinced me to go, by being able to wear the new clothes. So based on the fact that it was soooo cold it was most definitely a surprise. Mike had said that I must really be sure of my answer, If I said yes to marrying him in such frigid weather,  Luckily Mike’s friend had met us there and was able to get a couple of pictures of it before his fingers froze. lol
